Slumber My Baby

This song by Alison Kraus and Yo-Yo Ma echos my heart as I watch my sleeping babies. I love to go in a kiss them at night afer they are fast asleep. Tyler is growing so fast and it won't be long before I won't be able to pick him up and rock him, holding him close in my arms as his face nuzzles in my neck.

Slumber my darling
Thy mother is near
Guarding they dreams
From all terror and fear

Sunlight has past
And the twilight has gone
Slumber my darling
The night's coming on

Sweet visions attend they sleep
Fondest dearest to me
While others their revels keep
I will watch over thee

Slumber my darling
The birds are at rest
Wandering dews
By the flowers are caressed

Slumber my darling
I'll wrap thee up warm
Pray that the angels
Will shield thee from harm

Slumber my darling
Til morn's blushing ray
Brings to the world
The glad tidings of day

Fill the dark void
With thy dreaming delight
Slumber thy mother
Will guard thee tonight

Thy pillow shall sacred be
From all outward alarm
Thou thou art the world to me
In thy innocent charms

Slumber my darling
The birds are at rest
Wandering dews
By the flowers are caressed

Slumber my darling
I'll wrap thee up warm
Pray that the angels
Will shield thee from harm

Soccer Saturdays

I decided to have Matthew try Soccer this fall to see if he just didn't like T-ball or if we needed to wait a while before trying sports again. Thankfully, he seems much more interested and the pratice/game times have been more enjoyable for me as well.

Green Mountain Falls

We got to spend a few hours with the Plasterers - at least part of the family. Heather, Zachary, and Lexi invited us to a picnic at Green Mountian Falls. It was a very fun afternoon. When we got up there the boys were very excited about the large machinery paving the road. The kids played on the playground, splashed in the creek, threw rocks in the lake, watched a turtle, played on a rope swing, climbed a tree and sat atop a horse. Couldn't have asked for nicer weather and a great time to catch up with an old friend.

Powdered Sugar Blizzard

This past Monday morning I was trying to get a few more minutes of sleep. I got to bed at 3 am after working the late shift - the second week of my schedule change. I was dozing in and out of consciousness when I started hearing sounds from the boys that made me realize that I'd probably better get up. I dragged myself out of bed and headed out to the living room. What I found was this.

Yup, that's powdered sugar on my couch.
The boys were "swimming" around on the floor on their bellies and tracking the powdered sugar all over the house.
I was seeing red and just trying to contain myself so I wouldn't regret anything I said or did in that moment. I quarantined them to the kitchen and started cleaning.

Blueberry Zuchinni Bread

It's been that time of year again when zucchini is growing on every vine around town. Our neighbor Bill has been very generous with his produce and I decided to make some zucchini bread. I was tired of the same old recipe and when I went searching for something new was pleasantly surprised by a new combination. Blueberries and Zucchini make for a wonderful bread.

INGREDIENTS
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup vegetable oil
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups white sugar
2 cups shredded zucchini
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 pint fresh blueberries

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease 4 mini-loaf pans.

In a large bowl, beat together the eggs, oil, vanilla, and sugar. Fold in the zucchini. Beat in the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon. Gently fold in the blueberries. Transfer to the prepared mini-loaf pans.

Bake 50 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a knife inserted in the center of a loaf comes out clean. Cool 20 minutes in pans, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.

"Labor" Day

We decided the best way to celebrate the holiday was to go for a hike. We found an easy path in Evergreen that led us up to some rocks the boys had a blast climbing on (ok, I did too). Hiking with a 2 and 4 year old is a relative term. But we still had fun.

Tyler's 2 year old stubborness came out in all it's glory when he was trying to walk down the rocks. "I do it, I do it" he kept crying to me.

So cute!!

Preschool Round Two

This is Matthew's 2nd year of preschool at Trinity Lutheran Early Childhood Learning Center. His birthdy isn't until December so kindergarten gets held off until the fall of 2009. His teacher is Mrs. Joyce, new this year and the jury is still out on his favor of her. When asked about his first day of school his response was "hard". The second day it was "weird". But he still wants to stay longer when I come to pick him up. Don't be fooled by the serious look, he was smiling broadly just before when greeting his little friend Connor O.

Up A Tree

Matthew is very excited about climbing trees. He keeps asking me to put him up in the apple tree.
I have very fond memories of climbing many a tree in my day so I think it is quite cute that he is exploring this new adventure.

Dave and Nancy's Wedding

We went to our first wedding. The boys weren't that excited about going, but they were good sports about getting dressed up. Matthew kept asking me if he was handsome. I assured him that he was very handsome and that he was to be my "date" to the wedding since Steve was out of town. We spent most of the wedding ceremony in the "Cry Room" at the back of the sactuary. The funny thing is, the families of the three other kids that Nancy watches were all in there as well.
The reception was just as much of an adventure with trying to keep Matthew out of the cake and keep Tyler from running away. I got a few pictures, but certainly not what I was thinking I'd get. Oh well. At least these will jog my memory of the beautiful day.
